A Banjo Fool – #IST646 Final Project

The end is near!

The end of this class that is. Today I finished my FINAL PROJECT!!!

I can honestly say that this project was a labor of love! There were many mishaps, miscommunications, and missed nights of sleep. But it’s as done as it will ever be!

My Final Project is titled “A Banjo Fool.” This story is about how I wanted to surprise my Dad and do something special for him. I decided to learn the banjo. This video is my journey, and mishaps, of learning the banjo.

Enjoy!

(P.S. Make sure to watch all the way till the end! There is a surprise after the credits 😀 )

One Direction

Ok guys, lets talk about One Direction.

Well, I guess this isn’t really talking… More like me writing and you reading. But I feel like we are connected… Sort of… Now I’m creeping myself out.

I like One Direction.

Image

I REALLY like One Direction.

And it’s kind of weird. Because I’ll be honest… Up until about 2 months ago, I could have cared less about them. I knew next to nothing about them. Except that the one, with the hair, dated Taylor Swift. I couldn’t name all of them. I knew they were European and highly attractive. I knew they sang “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” (ironically I don’t like this song – I know, I know, I’m the worst fan ever).

Image

Honestly, it’s just unfair that there are 5 guys that are that attractive, and talented, and lovely people.

I don’t know how it happened. I had listened to “Best Song Ever” when it came out, and I didn’t think much of it. But then somehow at the end of August/beginning of September something happened. And I just went nuts. I decided to watch EVERY SINGLE video on their YouTube and Vevo channels. I don’t know why. I just did. And I fell hopelessly in love with One Direction. It’s a slippery slope man… I’ll never be the same. I know too much. I follow them all on Twitter. I follow their updates and change the time zones on my iPhone so I know what time it is where they are. I watch old concerts and interviews of them. I know their freaking birthdays now.

Image

So perfect…

It’s becoming a problem. I’m 24 years old for goodness sake… Who am I kidding. My only regret is that it took me this long to really fall in love with them. They are lovely. Pretty much the rest of this post is gonna be pictures of these gorgeous, wonderful, talented, kind, generous, attractive, hott, lovely boys.

Image

Niall Horan. Irish. 20 years old. The most attractive person on this earth. Best laugh I’ve ever heard.

Image

I’m not supposed to have a favorite. But if I did… Niall would be it. I love him. He is perfect. I would willingly have his children – and we all know how I don’t want kids. So that’s saying a lot.

Image

Look at him, all perfect in his sunglasses.

Image

I just can’t…

Image

Harry Styles. British. 19 years old. Apparently is unable to ever actually button his shirt all the way.

Image

Ridiculously attractive. I can see why Taylor fell for him. But I will always side with my Taylor. I want to touch his hair.

Image

Seriously though, there are buttons on the shirt for a reason man.

Image

Louis Tomlinson. British. 21 years old. Notorious prankster. I don’t know how someone can be so handsome yet so immature at the same time.

Image

He has such great hair. And he’s great at soccer. And his girlfriend is gorgeous.

Image

Adorable, just adorable.

Image

Liam Payne. British. 20 years old. Clearly the fittest member of 1D. His biceps… I just… Gosh.

Image

He also responds the most to fans on Twitter. Which I really appreciate. He goes out of his way to talk to the fans.

Image

The scruff… He is so incredibly sweet and kind. He’d just be the best friend.

Image

Zayne Malik. British. 20 years old. The most attractive person of all time ever. Look at him. JUST LOOK AT HIM.

Image

He’s prettier than most girls. Those cheekbones, his perfect nose, the eyes… Models wish they could look like him.

Image

He is the quietest and most private member of the band but he is fiercely protective of the 1D fans. He always stands up for them… us… It’s us now. I’m one of them.

Well there ya go. It’s all out there now. I love One Direction. I’m not ashamed. Now to devise a plan of how to meet them and convince at least one of them to date me/marry me/be my best friend…

Image

Taylor Swift

No snazzy title today folks, because I still feel miserable. This will probably be crap since I’m hopped up on cold meds… But here we go anyways.

I love Taylor Swift.

Image

So pretty. So perfect.

Now my love for T-Swizzle is a recent development of about 3 years. I didn’t really care for her… Because… I hate country music. That’s right, I said it. I’ll even say it again.  I HATE COUNTRY MUSIC. It’s crap. BUT I don’t think Taylor is “that” country anymore and her new music is lovely and pop and I listen to it now.

Image

Ohhhh pretty guitar.

Now I love Taylor so much that this past summer, for my birthday, me and my sister, and 4 of my friend went to Philadelphia to see her in concert (actually me, my sister and 1 friend went to see her, 2 of my friends went for Ed Sheeran, and I’m not sure why my other friend came because they just whined and complained the whole time)!

Here are some pictures from that concert!

Image

We are all poor, so we had terrible seats. Absolutely terrible. We were I think 10 rows down from the top.

Image

Yep, could barely even see the screen. Still worth it though.

Image

Most of the time I had no idea what was happening on stage. Still worth it.

Image

Worth it.

In fact, during the concert, right before Taylor Swift was going to come on. There was a HUGE thunderstorm that hit the OPEN stadium. They advised everyone to go inside and hide. We didn’t. I made my friends sit in the rain. So if she came back on we wouldn’t miss her. We got very wet. We sat in the rain for a long time. They all hated me. But the concert was amazing!

(Side note: I was so happy when the concert actually started that I pretty much cried through the first 2 songs. That’s right. I cried. Like a freaking baby. Tears of joy. It was amazing.)

Image

My favorite Taylor Swift song is “Mean” – mostly because I can really relate to it. I got picked on a lot in school. I had braces, glasses, super short hair, and I was fat. So yeah… Not a lot going for me. I also like: “Begin Again” – “White Horse” – “Haunted” – and a lot of other mushy sad love ones… I know I know… That’s like all of them.

Image

She just seems like she’d be a great BFF. And yes, I know she’s dated a lot of people. Yes, I know she is always labeled as the “innocent one” and all these men/boys are terrible people for breaking her heart. Yes, I know she might be the problem. I don’t care. She’s perfect. And lovely. And a wonderful person.

She also just gave a crap-ton of money to start an awesome new school for kids interested in music!

Image

She cares about everyone! She’s lovely!

Also, I have her perfume. And it smells amazing. I smell like Taylor Swift. It’s almost like we’re friends in real life!

Image

Did I mention she is gorgeous?

Image

It’s amazing to think that someone who is only a 5 months younger than me, has accomplished so much in life. I have accomplished nothing…. Well, I know most of her songs by heart… That’s something right?

Image

Big finale finish! Whoohoooo….

I need to blow my nose again.

Relient K

I’m gonna talk about the band… Not the car (but honestly how many people actually know that there is a car called Relient K).

Image

Relient K is one of my favorite bands. The monopolize over 100 songs on my iTunes and I listen to them on a weekly basis. You should too. They are awesome.

I first learned about Relient K when I was in JR High. It was my first summer working at CBC Camp and all the cool counselors (not me, I was lowly kitchen staff ((but I would become the 2nd coolest female counselor – it’s real, some kids voted on it))) would listen to this super cool CCM band called Relient K. I then got a little obsessed with them (I’m still a little obsessed, like I will listen to their new albums non stop until I have memorized all the songs).

Now Relient K started out CCM but I wouldn’t call them that anymore. They are more punk/rock now.

Relient K has had several different members (I swear they replace members every album) so the current members are: Matt Thiessen, Matt Hoopes, John Warne, and Jon Schneck (but who knows, by the time I post this it might have changed).

They have released 6 studio albums, 7 EPs, 2 Christmas albums, a cover album, and have sold over 2 million records.

They have had some amazing songs. My top favorites are : Gibberish, Mood Rings, Less Is More, PTL, and Savannah. Their first albums were mostly CCM with some funny/quirky songs thrown into the mix. Their current albums have a more serious tone to them. I believe this is due to the fact that they are grown up with families of their own now. They have more control over what they can/can’t do with the band and their writing comes from a real place of personal experiences.

Beside the ever present catchy tunes, Relient K has some amazing lyrics. Their songs are very honest and open and very easy to identify with.

Do your ears a favor and have a little listen. It’ll be great.

My Chemical Romance

I’m gonna talk about my favorite band (even though they aren’t together anymore) – My Chemical Romance.

(Wait she likes MCR???? But she said she likes One Direction and Taylor Swift?? – Yeah and I also like classical music, jazz, The Beatles, and Frank Sinatra. My music taste is complicated. Back off.)

Image

My Chemical Romance is a punk rock band that hails from New Jersey. And I love them. A lot (like I used to celebrate their birthdays… by myself).

Image

The lead singer is Gerard Way and he has a voice like none other. It’s haunting and beautiful and raspy and total rock n roll.

Image

His little brother, Mikey Way, is the bass player for the band. He specifically learned how to play the bass so he could be in the band.

Image

One of the guitarists is Ray Toro. He is probably one of the most talented guitar players on earth. Seriously. He’s awesome.

Image

The other guitarist is Frank Iero. He is probably the craziest guitarist out there and it is sheer entertainment watching him play.

Image

MCR has gone through several drummers. They’ve all left or been kicked out of the band because they are not nice people, or they get drunk, or they steal money (except Bob… Bob was awesome and I miss him).

Image

I first learned about MCR in JR High when I saw the music video Helena. I loved it but my Mother would not let me listen to non-Christian music so I didn’t get my hands on one of their albums until 2007. I know kids say “Music saved my life” or “This band saved my life” all the time and it can get pretty cliche. But My Chemical Romance really did help me through a really hard time in my life. My parents made me go to a college I hated and I lost a lot of my friends when I went there and I was terrible at making new friends. MCR became like a companion to me. Songs like ‘I’m not Okay” – “Teenagers” – “Famous Last Words” – etc. really helped me deal with some of the feelings I was going through. I didn’t have anyone to talk to, so instead I would listen to MCR and try to cope (I’m insanely good at coping today… I rarely deal with my feelings. Which is why I have the emotional capacity of a robot.).

MCR’s first album was “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love” – it was not my favorite, mostly because Gerard wasn’t sober yet and you can tell when you compare this album to the others. The others are better.

Image

The second album was “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” – great album. My favorite song on it is ‘Helena’ – which is my favorite MCR song of all time.

Image

Their third album was “The Black Parade” – basically the most epic album ever that tells a beautiful story. My favorite song on  it is ‘Famous Last Words’.

Image

Their fourth album was “Danger Days: True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” – this album was definitely different from all the others and it was phenomenal. My favorite song on it is – ‘The Only Hope For Me Is You’.

Image

Earlier this year My Chemical Romance decided to end their days as a band. I’m not gonna lie, I cried like a freakin baby. But all good things must come to and end right? One of my biggest regrets is that I never got to see them in concert. I’ve watched countless YouTube videos of their concerts but I never actually got to be there.

Image

MCR graciously released their last songs this year as well. During the time that they made the decision to end the band they released 5 sets of songs on iTunes. Each “album” had 2 or 3 songs on it.

Image Image Image Image Image

I wish I could tell them how much they mean to me, how I will always love and respect them, and how I miss them a lot. I’m happy that they are happy with their wives and little families. Rock on My Chem. Rock on.

So… {awkward silence}

I have been thinking about starting a blog for quite awhile. Though I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to post about…

I like food, but I rarely cook. I love music, but most people don’t like the same music. I quite like leopard print, but I’ve been told that it’s tacky (though I’d like to point out that it is SO coming back into fashion this upcoming winter). I like reading, but just weird young adult books (i have a theory that I’m not a real grown up yet-fingers crossed it never happens).

So I guess I’ll just write about me, though what a terribly boring subject.

Just kidding, I’m freaking awesome. Ask any of my friends. All 5 of them will agree I’m fantastic… most of the time… usually… when I’m not grumpy or hungry… usually only when I’m quiet or asleep.

So maybe a little about myself…

  • Favorite Animal – Sheep
  • Favorite Color – Red… but sometimes pink
  • Favorite Person – My sister, when she is being pleasant to me
  • Favorite artists/bands – My Chemical Romance, Relient K, Newsboys, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Taylor Swift, NSYNC (yep, that’s right), Bing Crosby, Etta James, and One Direction (don’t you dare judge me!)
  • Favorite Food – Pizza
  • Favorite Dessert – Brownies
  • Favorite Sport – Soccer
  • Favorite President – Abraham Lincoln
  • Favorite Book – Peter Pan
  • Favorite Movie – Ever After

Well… If you’re not asleep yet, then just wait! I’m sure I can think of more trivial things to put in here.

Thanks for reading. I’m looking forward to ranting on here and seeing where this goes.
